Book Readings (KC+DC)
I did my first ever book reading in DC. We met at Mustang Sally Brewery with about 20 people who either knew me or had read my book. One of my good friends was the bartender and we were able to have a small room just for us. I read from the section where I went to Yemen from my book. I was also able to record two short podcasts with people who were there (there was no recording studio, so please excuse the background noise).
In the first podcast, my ‘bestie’ Joey wants to talk about rugby and we talk about how the sport helps make leaders.
In the second podcast, my rugby buddy ‘dumdum’ asks me if my drive to step outside of my boundaries was due to “nature or nurture”. For most of my life, I rejected the notion of “nature”. Then I met my dad…
My second book reading was in in KC—Jeremy surprised me! He told me we were going on a double date with some friends and when I walked into New London Cafe, our whole group of friends was there. It was an emotional moment seeing everyone there for me with framed pictures of our life together and a giant poster that was designed by Aaron Rester. The funny part is that I had just texted the owner of the Cafe to ask if we could do a book reading there the next week—apparently he and Jeremy got a great laugh out of that. I was also able to record two short podcasts (with some background noise) talking about what people thought about my book. Enjoy!
